As a child, I was interested in art and always gained top marks for classwork in primary school. When I attended High School, this trend continued and I remember having a piece of my artwork chosen out of the whole year group to be exhibited in Macclesfield Arts Festival.
Unfortunately, I was unable to continue with art classes at school, but resumed as an adult and joined an art group in Poynton for a short while and other groups later on.
It was in my early twenties that I decided to become a teacher and had the opportunity to study art as a subsidiary subject and how to teach it. During my teaching career, I taught some art at two schools in Tameside.
Now semi-retired, I am free to pursue my passion for art whenever I want! I am self-taught and have developed a fairly loose style.I would describe my work as traditional. Recently, I have been commissioned to do a number of pet portraits.
Having been brought up in the Cheshire countryside, I have always been drawn towards painting animals, birds, gardens and country scenes, because of my love of the area where I grew up. However, I also enjoy painting industrial scenes- old canals and factories, and the seaside, so I tend to cover a variety of subjects.
