Description

Winter Calling is a colourful English winter landscape with snow glimpsed through the last leaves of autumn. It is 36x24x1.5 inches. This painting was made after a winter walk I took near the Mayfield area of Sussex, where many small hills and vales are part of the High Weald (formerly a vast ancient forest in the south of England). This view was one I came across of a farm on a hill with light snow around it, seen from a small woodland. Some of the leaves were still on the trees in reds and golds, and the dark green of ivy on the oak tree trunks. I love the contrast of cold colours to warm colours. Like most of my landscape paintings, this is not an unusual subject, but I have nevertheless tried to portray it uniquely so that some of the longing I feel for such places is expressed (yes, I desperately wish I lived on that farm). The painting is on wide-edge canvas, painted a muted purple colour which integrates into the edges of the painting and helps propel the viewer into the scenery. Painted on deep edge canvas, ready to hang, no frame needed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
