Neil’s latest commission has been to paint Glassbrook Cottage on Red Rock Lane, Aspull, in the countryside near Wigan in Lancashire for Mr and Mrs Colin Higham.
This ancient farm cottage originally dates from around 1680 and has commanding views from the rear over the Leeds Liverpool Canal and towards Rivington Pike and Anglezarke Moor.
Glassbrook Cottage is constructed from local honey-coloured stone, with traces of red which no doubt ties in with the area called Red Rock.
The original part of the cottage was owned by the Haigh Hall Estate before being sold into private hands by Lord Balcarres in 1943.
The property was in a parlous state before being sensitively restored and extended by Mr and Mrs Higham in 2018 and 2019.
