Morton Murray Profile
Morton Murray

Morton’s background was as a Mechanical Engineer working initially on motorcycles and then rapidly expanding his knowledge and experience of working with machines of all kinds.

He took up painting in 1993, aged 54 years, after a decline in health. His wife bought him a box of paints and brushes and suddenly Morton’s life brightened.

In 1996, together with two friends Morton founded Horwich Art Society.

His subject matter was always so varied, ranging from landscapes to the most detailed and beautifully executed paintings of locomotives and racing cycles.

” My most often produced works are steam locomotives- as you might guess from an engineer- but whilst I love these great beasts, I often feelthe need to record my reactions to events. These can take on many forms, I often change my style as I change my subject and I rarely feel the same emotion about a subject, relying on spontaneity as much as possible.

Art is all things to all people, constantly changing, always exciting – a great place to be.”
